Formula 1 is back. The 2025 season is in full flow and as you will no doubt be aware LVMH have usurped Rolex as the official timekeeper. Whilst Tag Heuer have always kept a close relationship with F1, mainly through the partnership with Redbull Racing, the official timekeeper title gives them an opportunity to double down on the F1 connection. Not doing things by halves Tag are releasing nine (!) new Tag Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph watches with some bold colour combinations.
This new Formula 1 collection might look oddly familiar as it bears a close resemblance to 2024’s Tag Heuer Formula 1 Kith Collection. Where the Kith collection introduced bold colouring and retro 80s dial design, the new Formula 1 range returns to classically clean dials in opaline black, white or blue.
Though alongside the muted black or blue bezels and steel case the new collection does offer some of the more eccentric case colouring we saw with Kith. A couple of the standouts include a red bio-polyamide case with green bezel and a black PVD coated case with yellow bezel.
In time for the new season, Tag have brought a few major upgrades to the new Formula 1 collection. The case size measures in at a very respectable 38mm. Up from 35mm on the Kith collection. At 9.9mm thick the watch has presence on the wrist without being too big or too small.
The larger case size is home to a new engine with Tag Heuer’s Solargraph movement. The Solargraph is a quartz movement that charges the battery by exposure to either sun or artificial light. Just two minutes of exposure to sunlight is enough to charge the watch for a full day. Whilst previous Formula 1 watches have used normal quartz movements, this is the first time the Solargraph movement has been used in the collection.
Across the nine timepieces, three are equipped with a steel bracelet which carry a 100 CHF premium over the 1,750 CHF (approx. £1,550) price tag of the rubber strap variants. These steel versions form the core of the Formula 1 collection and won’t be limited. The colour editions will be limited with each watch released in coordination with a Grand Prix weekend. The first to look out for is the black and red version which will go on pre-sale on the 29th April just before the Miami GP.
If you want to get a better idea of what these new Formula 1 editions look like ahead of their release, keep an eye out for the pit lane clock on race weekends. Above the pit lane you’ll see a new Tag Heuer clock whose design mirrors that of the new collection.
Looking across the line up the new collection offers something for everyone and I think that’s what we need to bear in mind. Many of the colour combinations might not be to your liking but that’s why there are nine, Tag are hedging their bets that there is at least one you might like.
