Art in Time has been producing really interesting collaborations for several years now, including last month’s Laurent Ferrier Classic Traveller. Now though the Monaco-based wristwatch gallery has teamed up with Chopard to produce a his & hers set of Alpine Eagle watches with fascinating dials. It’s the Chopard x Art in Time Alpine Eagle His & Hers Chameleon Set, consisting of a 41 XPS and a 36 model.
As a his & hers set, the differences between the two models are fairly apparent. The 41 XPS is the larger of the two with a 41mm diameter in steel, although despite that size it remains very slim with a thickness of 8.2mm. The ladies model, the 36, is 36mm in diameter but is actually the thicker of the two at 8.4mm, perhaps in order to accommodate the additional gemsetting on the white gold bezel with 36 baguette cut sapphires. In terms of shape, both follow the classic Alpine Eagle integrated bracelet design with broad, flat bezel that gives them a somewhat industrial vibe with exposed screws.
Where this limited edition set really comes to life though are the dials. Both feature a gradient pattern that Chopard are calling Chameleon due to the way the hues of purple and blue seem to shift and change in the light. It’s really quite mesmerising and it looks spectacular. The colours also lean into the idea of a his & hers collection with blue for the man and purple for the woman. However, taking gender out of it, I personally find that it reminds me of an aurora, sweeping across the sky. The swirling radial finish sells that vision too.
The Chopard x Art in Time Alpine Eagle 41 XPS His & Hers Chameleon houses the Poinçon de Genève calibre L.U.C 96.40-L with automatic winding and a 65-hour power reserve. The 36 edition instead houses the COSC chronometer CHOPARD 09.01-C with 42-hour power reserve. Both impressive in their own right and you will get to experience both if you purchase the set. The set itself is limited to 15 pieces with each pair of watches sharing a limited edition number on their casebacks. They are priced at €60,250 (approx. £49,750) excl. taxes and are available from Art in Time.
