Farer Release Aqua Compressor Endeavour Ocean White and Hecla Carmine Red to Aid Conservation

Ever since Farer released the Aqua Compressor in 2017 in steel, it has become one of their staple dive watches with a portion of the proceeds from its sale going to support the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust. Following the steel original there was a second series in titanium and now in 2024 Farer are releasing the third wave in the same style. The new watches are the Aqua Compressor Endeavour Ocean White Series II and Hecla Carmine Red Series II.

Both of the new watches feature the same case as the Endeavour Titanium Series II that preceded them, measuring 41mm in diameter in grade 2 titanium. They weigh less than 70g while having a water resistance rating of 300m. That resistance comes from the compressor style of the case’s construction, which means as more pressure is applied to the watch the deeper under water you go, the more the internal gaskets get compressed making a tighter and tighter seal.

However, the real selling point of the Aqua Compressor Endeavour Ocean White and Hecla Carmine Red are the new dials. First, let’s look at the Endeavour Ocean White, which in the daylight has a white dial with solid black indexes and matching solid black hands. At first you might be wondering why a dive watch would have black hands and markings when the norm is for them to be coated with lume, well, the Ocean White’s party trick is that everything else on the dial is lumed. That means in low light conditions the entire dial glows and the black markings create negative space, so they are actually as easy to read as those on a conventional dive watch.

Additionally, Farer have added a gentle wave texture to the dial beneath the lume so that when it glows there appears to be a ripple pattern across its surface. I really like this design, it’s fun and quirky (classic adjectives for Farer) while remaining practical and reliable. And the same is more or less true of the second version as well.

That second version is the Hecla Carmine Red. The name Hecla stems from the HMS Hecla, a military ship that was converted into an Arctic explorer and which was itself named after the volcano called Hekla in Iceland. That volcanic inspiration follows a certain logic as to why this is the red one. It’s a very rich red tone as well, found across the dial, rotating inner bezel and rubber strap.

Powering both Aqua Compressors is the Sellita SW200-1 Elaboré movement with 38-hour power reserve. Both versions cost £1,075 and are available with the option of purchasing an additional titanium bracelet for £235. A solid price to be sure and also one that helps the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust do their work supporting marine conservation in the north.
