Holthinrichs New Aventurine and Meteorite Expand 3D Printed Deconstructed Watches

While everyone’s eyes tend to focus on the major watch brands to set trends and reveal the next cutting edge development in watchmaking, smaller brands shouldn’t be overlooked. Holthinrichs are a Dutch brand pioneering the use of metal 3D printing in the watch industry, launching their radical Deconstructed watch this summer. Now they’re expanded the Deconstructed collection with new Aventurine and Meteorite models.

(Deconstructed) Aventurine

Starting with the Aventurine, it uses the same case structure and concept as the Deconstructed. Which is to say it’s made from 3D printed titanium using a style and structure that would not be possible with any other technique. Specifically, the lugs are incredibly intricate and skeletonised in such a way that they look like they are floating next to the case rather than attached to it. The watch is floating in a void.

This floating concept informs the new dial of the piece, which is made from aventurine glass, which you could probably have guessed from the watch’s name. Aventurine glass is really popular at the moment, especially with watches like the Christopher Ward Moonphase making great use of it. Its dark navy colour and speckled appearance gives it the impression of a field of stars viewed at night. The space theme really suits the sci-fi case of the (Deconstructed) Aventurine.

Unlike the original Deconstructed, Holthinrichs have opted to make this edition a completely closed dial version instead of a partial skeleton. It makes it far more classy and refined and highlights some of the design aspects of the collection that get lost in the busier display of the original. Such as the gently tapering baton hour markers that draw the eye inwards to the centre of the starry display.

(Deconstructed) Meteorite

The second addition to the Deconstructed collection is the Meteorite. It has the same Deconstructed case design as the Aventurine with a diameter of 39mm and thickness of 9.8mm including domed sapphire crystal. And just like the Aventurine it builds on the original concept of the range by adding a space theme to the piece, this time with the addition of a meteorite dial.

We’ve covered many a meteorite dial here at Oracle Time and the Meteorite here is about as classic as they come. A strong grey colouration with the signature striations and unique pattern. This dial is specifically made from a meteor called Muonionalusta, which is one of the most common sources of meteorite dials across the entire watch industry.

Unlike the Aventurine, the Meteorite is still partially skeletonised (though no where near to the same degree as the standard Deconstructed) via a small open heart aperture that functions as the small seconds subdial. The movement that can be glimpsed below is the HW-M01 based on the Peseux 7001. It’s a manual calibre with a 42-hour power reserve.

As for pricing and availability for the two models, the Aventurine is €16,800 (approx. £14,500) and limited to 20 pieces. The Meteorite has a higher price at €18,800 (approx.£16,250), again limited to 20 pieces. Interestingly both are significantly less than the original Deconstructed up at €35,000 (approx. £30,200). Alternatively you can get all three in a box set for €60,000 (approx. £52,000) which is actually solid value as it works out almost £10,000 cheaper than buying them individually. They’re certainly pricy but then, they are produced with cutting edge technology and have cool sci-fi aesthetics that look incredible.
